Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab bid goodbye to the 2020 Indian Premier League on Sunday after victories for Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

In the first of Sunday’s double-header in Abu Dhabi, KXIP were crushed by nine wickets in a must-win clash against Chennai Super Kings. A late flurry of boundaries from the bat of Deepak Hooda had helped Punjab muster a total of 153-6 on a slow surface.

However, it didn’t prove to be enough for KL Rahul’s men with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten half-century fashioning a comprehensive victory for Chennai.

It was Rajasthan’s turn to bow out later in the day in Dubai, with Kolkata Knight Riders registering a thumping 60-run win to give themselves a fighting chance to make the play-offs.

Some brisk hitting from skipper Eoin Morgan saw KKR post a daunting 191-7 before a four-wicket burst from Pat Cummins destroyed Rajasthan’s run chase.

The emphatic win has put Kolkata in the play-off positions for now, although Sunrisers Hyderabad have a chance to leapfrog Morgan’s men when they take the field on Tuesday.
